Maori’s That Changed The World

Hello, today in class we have been learning about different famous Maori’s that changed the world and mine was Billy T James.

The first thing we had to do was that we had to read a story about a famous Maori person which was only 2 pages. The story was honestly really entertaining but the worst thing about the reading is that I had to mote myself  reading which I do NOT like doing. After the reading we had to translate a whakatauki that was on the slide we read the story on. My Whakatauki was ‘Me Te Wai Korari’ It means ‘As sweet as the honey of the flax’. The whakatauki basically means to be sweet and all that. After that we had to put it on a google drawing.

When we finished that we had to write about the famous person we have just read about. I tried making my google doc as simple as possible so it’s nice and easy to read instead of having to read six million paragraphs worth of information about one being. It was kind of fun researching Billy T James because I learnt heaps more about him like his wife and child. I also learnt about key events that happened in his life like how he got. In 1984 Billy won the Feltex Best Entertainment award and another for entertainer of the decade.

Technology

Hello, this year every Thursday, we have been going to technology at Te Aratai College.

The different subjects are Wood works, fabrics, cooking, robotics, and plastics. This term my tech group has fabrics. The teacher in fabrics i’m with is Mrs Freya and I do not like Freya. (sorry Freya if you see this). In Fabrics, I haven’t done much but practice using the sewing machine and learn how to use it.

My favourite thing in fabrics is just using the sewing machine that I have learnt to use. It’s really fun to use and I really wanna do it again. The thing I don’t like in it is having to write things down in the booklet I got given the first session. It’s boring and its literally just writing which is boring to me. The difficult thing in tech was making boxes in wood works.

Wood works was difficult because we had to make a box and a spatula. The spatula was easy to make but the box was the worst. I was way behind by like a few steps but I managed to finish my whole box in time thankfully. Do YOU like technology? Cause I  don’t.

Get Wise

Hello, yesterday this man came over from Get Wise and was teaching us some stuff about how to spend our money wisely. Get Wise is a financial literacy program for students and it is sponsored by ASB.

The first thing he taught us was that we need to spend our money wisely. We then had to come up with how things influence us to buy products and all that. Some of the things were: Influencers, social media, ads, games, etc. After that, he told us about how we can stop ourselves from buying things we don’t need. The strategy were: Stop and think, do your research, and check your bank account before you leave the house.

After we did all that, we got to play a game of would you rather. I really enjoyed playing would you rather because it was kind of funny at times. The questions were mostly just ‘would you rather buy this or that’ and ‘would you rather do this or that’ you know? After that we got to play another game and it was about that we went to space for a student exchange and we were given 160 dollars (not for real just in the game sadly).

There were three shops we went to. The shoe shop, chocolate shop, and book shop for a guide book. I will say me and my group did pretty good at using our money but we only have 85 dollars left over.

On Tuesday, We had the Get Wise guy come back in again and we played another game. It was about that we went on a holiday to Fiji and our budget was 1600 dollars. We had to get in a group and me and my group named the group name Twinkle Toes.  The rounds were just asking “do

you want to buy this or that?” and yeah.  In the end, my group and another group tied with 14 enjoyment points and 300 dollars. The other 3 groups had less. 2 of them went over their budget.

Action Station

Hello, Today we started doing our action station and mine was Badminton. At first it was pretty boring since I KEPT MISSING THE BALL and all that, but after some time I started getting used to it. Overall it was really fun.

The way you play badminton is that you need a racket, shuttlecock, a net in the middle, and two teams. All I know of it really is that you just need to keep hitting the ball to the other team without it hitting the ground. I wasn’t really told how to play, I was just using my memory :).

I was with my friends the whole time and I was practising on how to whack the ball and all that. So because of that, I got better at playing with them and had a really good time with them. At one point, when we had to swap over but there was like literally no one on the side we were on so we got to play again and it was fun like always of course.

I helped someone because they were having trouble trying to hit the ball up in the air (yea I know, i’m sooo nice). In the end they still didn’t really get it but they hit it a few times. (Not saying they suck.)

In the end, it was really fun and I really want to do it again next time. Thank you for reading my blog, bye 🙂

Changes of State

Hello, Today we have started this sheet about changes of state.

We have looked at how particles  look when its a gas, liquid, and solid. When its a gas, the particles are all spread out with a huge amount of space. When its a liquid, the particles are all spread out but not too spread out. Finally, when its a solid, the particles are all squished together. We also learnt how a solid gets to a liquid, how liquid gets into a solid, and liquid gets to a gas.

For a solid to get into a liquid, it has to be heated for a certain amount of time then its liquid. For a liquid to become solid, you need to put the liquid in a cold place (like a freezer) and let it freeze into ice which is solid. For a liquid to be a gas, you need to put the liquid into a pot or kettle, let it heat, then the liquid will turn into a gas.

Thank you for reading my blog, Goodbye 🙂

Action Station Reflection

Hello, for the past 5 weeks me and a lot more people have been doing theatre sports for this years theme which is Action.

The first session was really awkward at first since I knew NO ONE there. Once we started to play different games I started to feel a little more confident just being there and it was very fun. One of the games we played was called whoosh. Whoosh is a really fun game to play and obviously it’s my favourite. Another game we played that day was called Lap, lap, clap, snap. In my opinion that game was pretty mid. (please don’t be offended if you find that game fun, I DID say it was my own opinion.)

The other games we played were: Shapes, Reflections, and Freeze frame. Shapes were also pretty mid since I played it a few times before and didn’t really enjoy it. Reflections were really fun and funny since seeing the other person try do what you were doing was ridiculous. Finally freeze frame. Freeze frame was both entertaining and awkward. It was entertaining because it was also funny to try and make a scene without laughing when we had to freeze. It was also awkward because like I said before, I. KNEW. NO ONE. So that’s why it was awkward.

The bit I found nice was of course playing whoosh. The thing i found difficult though was trying to remember other peoples names.

Thank you for reading my blog post 😀 bye byee

Note: I still dont know 80% of them.

Heart and Lungs and Decision Making

Hello, today in kaupapa matua, we have been filling out some sheets about the effects of smoking to your heart and lungs. We also did some decision making.

A few things today I have learnt is that your heart will beat 115,00 times a day and it pumps about 2000 gallons of blood a day. Another fact is that your right lung has 3 lobes but your left only has 2 and that you breathe 13 pints of air a day per minute.

The effects of smoking can really damage a person. Especially their lungs. The effects of smoking to your heart and lungs I have found is that: You can get coronary heart disease, you could have a heart attack, Arrhythmia, Less airflow, more mucus and infections, and fewer cilia.

The next sheet is decision making.

There were four scenarios that I had to fill out and had to draw pictures with them. One of them is: You’d paid a lot of money to sit in the grandstand at a sports event, when the person sitting next to you lights up a cigarette. My answer was honestly a bit silly but I was being honest. My answer to that was: I would tell them to stop but if they do not stop I ‘ll snatch it from them and squash it on the ground. After that I’ll move away.

Here are some pictures of my work 😀

Peer Pressure

This week we have been learning about what peer pressure is.

Peer pressure is when someone is using words to make someone else do something they may or may not want to do. A negative example of pressure is: Your friend hasn’t done their homework and they ask if they can copy your work. They then say that if you let them, you’ll be a good friend.

A positive example of peer pressure is:  You and your sibling are playing around and then knocks over a vase and it smashes on the ground. You think about hiding it but then your sibling tells you to tell the truth to your mum. So then you tell the truth.

My Persuasive Writing for Smoking :)

Hello, This week we have been writing a piece of persuasive writing to convince them that smoking is bad.  We also had a look at some sentence starters to use in our writing.

In my persuasive writing I clearly stated in my opening paragraph that people should stop smoking and that it’s bad. In the next paragraphs I have also mentioned the reasons below.

  • It’ll make you look really weird like: Gray skin, yellow teeth, wrinkles and more!
  • It can make you have lung cancer, mouth gangrene and emphysema.
  • It causes pollution if you drop a cigarette butt on the road.

I have also found out that 1 and 5 people in New Zealand die from smoking.

in conclusion people should quit smoking

Te Ra Kirihimete – Christmas Day

hello, today we have been writing some sentences down on a google slide and they’re Christmas related :).

First our teacher explained all the sentences to us then we grabbed our Chromebooks right after. Once we got our Chromebooks we made a google slide and started writing out everything. Obviously this was my least favourite part because i’m not one of those people who enjoy writing. (I only like writing silly stupid stories :>)

After this I added pictures and this was ALSO BORING but not as boring as doing the writing. When I finished doing this I had to add motes onto all of the slides. This was fun honestly because it just was for some reason. (totally not because I got to talk to my friend.. o_o) in the end I finished it.

That was pretty much it. Thank you for reading, goodbye and see you next year. (maybe.)
